This is actually where they used to soak the flax before making it into linen in the 1800's and probably before. My mother (who is 89) still has some linen made by her forebears from Rosemarkie, Munro's, Millars and Hossacks. I used to slide on this area in the winter when at least this amount of water frose over and collected frog spawn in the deeper part nearest the hill in the springtime
