50 years ago this used to be quite deep and held good sized trout which attracted adult fly fishers and loons wi' worms. it frequently froze over in winter but it could then be dangerous when the water level leaked out of the sluice leaving a slippery ramp on to the ice.

When my father was a boy (born 1914) he used to take a barrow up to the pond when it was frozen and cut blocks of ice which were taken to the ice house up the Kincurdy drive for use by the salmon fishers. We must have had pretty cold winters then.
